The two things international students struggle with when moving to Australia.

June 13, 2019

The cost of studying in Australia and adjusting to the local culture have been revealed as the two areas in which international students struggle the most when embarking on a study experience in Australia, a new report shows.

Cohort Go’s 2019 Aussie Study Experience Report shows cost and culture are the biggest opportunity areas for education agents and education providers to help students become advocates of Australia as a study destination, and to gain trust in their respective service offerings.

A majority of the students surveyed in the report said they had high levels of concern in regards to pricing when considering their international study options.

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit's Worldwide Cost of Living 2019 survey, five of Australia’s capital cities are among the top 15 most expensive cities to live in Asia, so helping students navigate the cost of studying in Australia is an opportunity agents and providers can grasp.

The report also shows that while life in Australia for many students is meeting expectations, settling in and adjusting to a new place and culture was difficult for many of those surveyed.

A significant portion of students surveyed say adjusting to the Australian lifestyle and making friends quickly were among the biggest challenges to overcome.

With education agents and providers acting as a source of information and guidance for students worldwide, the report shows the massive opportunity for them to help improve the overall experience of their students and solidify education agents as key players in students' decision making processes.
