You can only cancel your OSHC in certain circumstances. Obviously it is a requirement of your student visa that you maintain an active OSHC policy for the duration of your visa to study in Australia, so there are restrictions on the reasons for which you can cancel.  Most of the OSHC insurers that we have spoken to indicate that they will provide the refund to you within 10 business days, although we are aware that this time frame is often not met by certain insurers.

When can I ordinarily cancel my OSHC?
If you have made a mistake by inputting your name incorrectly;
If your student visa is refused. You will need to provide evidence in this case in the form of your DIAC visa refusal letter.
If you decide not to come to Australia. You will need to provide evidence in the form of your cancelled eCOE.

You have another OSHC provider. You will need to provide evidence in the form of the confirmation of cover from the other OSHC provider.T
here may be other specific circumstances where you may be able to cancel your OSHC insurance. You should speak directly to your insurer if you need to cancel your insurance for reasons outside of the above.
